My husband has a 2001 Cavalier. 2 weeks ago it started making a huff a huff tic tic noise. he can't see anything under the hood and the car hasn't lost power, what could it be?

a huff huff nosie, wierd but a shot in the dark with out looking at it could be a exhaust leak. a click click can be a cv joint going out.
these are just guesses as the car isnt here and i am not hearing the sounds.
