I can only assume they also saved all their confederate dollars..after all, the South shall rise again! This flag has come to be the flag of red necks, and if I were black, I think I would avoid those who wave the thing. In fact, I am white and I avoid them.

Unfortunately, you answered your own question. Most fly the Confederate flag BECAUSE it scares you.

Sure, some fly that flag because to them it simply represents The South. I've never quite understood that, I mean, The South LOST. And thank goodness it did. Can you imagine what this continent would be like if, instead of being these UNITED states, we were a conglomerate of small countries and territories?

I live in Pennsylvania and there are plenty of people around here--- "good old boy types"--- who display the Confederate flag in the rear windows of their pickup trucks. They are not from the south and they have no attachment to the south. In fact, many of them don't necessarily like Southerners. They just display the Confederate symbol as a sort of Badge of Bigotry.

They are a$$holes. Pay them no mind. We white people are not all like that. And not everyone who displays the Confederate flag is a bigot.

Your not being rude or ignorant. Some people in the south grew up in families that definatly still believe in segregation and what not. It can be frightening because some people are so extreame that you cannot always know what they will do. I have grown up in the south. Not the extreame south, but I have been around it all of my life. It is all on how a person is raised. Some have that flag because they think it is cool. The symbol of the Redneck, so to speak. Some have it for other reasons. I hope this helps a little.

If you are an African from the South, that flag is yours, too. Many former slaves fought for the homeland , having been given the same deal the federals offered. (Check out the Battle for Richmond)

The Southern Cross is about pride, self reliance , uncompromised priniciples.

People who think its a symbol of racial hatred forget that the Klan also marched under the Stars and Stripes, as have American GI Forum and NAACP.

Ya got me!! It's the flag of the loosing side. Maybe they just wanna let everyone know they're losers...

Okay, that was my opinion... about them being losers, I mean.

Although the flag is seen by some Southerners simply as a symbol of Southern pride, it is often used by racists to represent white domination of African-Americans. The flag remains a subject of controversy because some Southern states still fly the flag from public buildings or incorporate it into their state flag’s design. The flag is also used by racists as an alternative to the American flag, which they consider to be an emblem of what they describe as the Jewish-controlled government.

Well, I guess for the same reason some people wear the x of malcolm.. or claim to be from a country they've never been to... or follow a reverend who's not had a church as long as I can remember..
I'm not trying to be rude either, just pointing out the parallels here..
an old phrase, sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander..
I'd prefer it not be used by hate groups, but, I can only change so much in my lifetime, and I've chosen to try to help people find God, soooo, afraid you'll have to help the others.
Oh, and one last thought, it may be because they're continually told that their heritage is bad, and everybody else's is good?

Ignorance. The bars and stars used to be a symbol of racism. It was flown by the south during the Civil War. I guess it depends on the reason it's flown. Some because they are from the south, and others because, well, basicaly, they are somewhat racist. As for being scared, sometimes, but it depends on the situation.

I guess it is a symbol of their white heritage.

Blacks could always start wearing and waving the flag to take the power away.

Yes, it's scary seeing a confederate flag because I'm assuming that person's apart of the KKK or something.
