There may be several things that cause this behaviour. The most common one is spyware. Use the free anti-spyware scanners on the following page to scan your system: http://www.cybertopcops.com/free-downloads.php#anti-spyware

Secondly check and make sure you don't have any large files on your desktop. People tend to put executables and video files on their desktops. These files are loaded into your memory each time your start your computer up. Move all the large files to your My Documents folder and ensure that your only have shortcuts on your desktop.

hi, virus can slow your computer, perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.

i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:

You need to download ccleaner which wipes all the crap off your system. It really does work I promise. Just type ccleaner in yahoo and you should get the link to download it. Once installed run the program and then restart your machine. Hopefully this will fix the problem I swear by it.
