Think of holding a metal rod with a flame at the other end, the end you're holding is cold but all of a sudden, it starts to get hot, then hotter and hotter.......the heat is convected from the hot end down to where you are holding it, making it go from cold to hot.........

A convection radiator convects heat up through the slots in it using the heat to draw in cold air at the bottom as the heat rises away from the top of it.

when air is heated it rises bringing in cooler air under it, convection ovens use this to heat throughout the entire oven making cooking time less by creating an even heat throughout.
