If the altenator isnt charging or is charging below a certain voltage the battery light will come on..And if system voltage drops below a certain number the light will also come on..

Usually when the battery light comes on , 9 out of 10 times there is a problem with the charging system. Have the charging system checked by a reputable mechanic.

Sounds like the alternator has no electrical output.
Take a voltmeter, couple the positive lead to the positive battery pole and the negative lead to the negative battery pole while the engine is running. It should read +-14 volts, which shows whether the alternator is charging or not.
Normally that output voltage switches the charching light off.

You should be able to bring your vehicle to any auto parts store, and they will test your charging system for free. If the battery is ok, then the alternator is most likely the problem.

IF the care ran ok before the light came on, I would say its a charging issue, take it to NAPA or another auto parts store and have them check the altenator, the will do it at no cost to you.

You could have a fuse that went out, or the brain of your car is malfunctioning...Also, try cleaning the post of your battery with baking soda and water...Let me know if this helps...

ide say alternator, take your car to an auto parts store and have them check the system. more then likely your alternator though

It could be *ANY* electrical problem.. including a bad voltage regulator or alternator.
