i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

"Steve Irwin, the ebullient Australian TV personality and conservationist known as the Crocodile Hunter, was killed Monday by a stingray barb to the heart during a diving expedition, police and his wildlife park said.
Irwin, 44, was filming an underwater sequence for a television series on remote Batt Reef off the far northeast coast of Australia when he encountered the ray and was stung about 11 a.m. (0100 GMT), Australia Zoo, Irwin's park, said in a statement.
Crew members aboard Irwin's boat, Croc One, called emergency services in the nearest city, Cairns, and administered cardio pulmonary resuscitation techniques as they rushed the boat to nearby Low Isle to meet a rescue helicopter.
He was pronounced dead sometime later."
Steve May you rest in peace and may the hearts of everyone be with your family and friends. you will be greaty missed, not only as that guy on the tele poking animals with sticks but a a true aussie conservationist with a big heart and can always make you laugh. My thoughts go out to his daughter his son and his lovely wife. may you rest in peace steve and i hope you are in a better place. Brought a tear to my eye steve Will always love you.

It has been said that he was happy to be able to do what he loved doing. It happens that he placed himself in a lot of risky situations because animals pose dangers even when they may not particularly intend to.
I get more angry when someone who doesn't take big risks is killed by someone who, say, speeds or drives drunk (which means the drunk driver takes the risks with other people's lives).
This particular guy's death is very unfortunate because he was young, but he chose to gamble when it came to risks - and he lost. So, no. He apparently loved his work and thought any risks were worth it, so there's nothing to be angry about.

No. Why get mad? He lived his life in a dangerous way. Everyone dies eventually. He was bound to die young with all the risks he took. I do feel bad for his wife and young kids. They are probably having a terrible time right now.

It is so shocking that he would die. I mean i have never seen anyone die from a stingray. He is a professional with animals. Why didn't he have the right gear he needed on? At least he died doing what he loved!

shocked, in disbelief, not Steve Iwin! He could never die!
Then again, none of us are getting out of this alive--
Reminds us how precious life is and how fast it can be gone.
Lets pray for Terri and the children now.
RIP crikey!

Why would we be pissed? How did you expect him to die? He messed around with dangerous animals for a living....it was only a matter of time.
