When I moved into my apartment, it was brand new, and the walls were an off white color. I hung up some posters in my room, and now that I have taken them down, there are gray colored stains on the wall. It has to be dust, because the posters have been there since I first moved in. Is there any way to clean this off???

I have already tried cleaning agents, for those of you who feel the need to insult my intelligence by saying "dipshit". I was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas. Thanks.

Go to the automotive department of wall-mart and get a container of automotive degreaser, around $5.00 for a gallon. Mix it in a spray bottle according to the instructions; it gives ratios for different jobs. Use it on a dampened well wrung sponge, cleaning a little section at a time. Work from top to bottom. Good luck.

The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works great. It takes everything off the walls including marker stains.

On a newly painted wall, after hanging pics etc, the color difference is the paint fading and the pics prevented fading. They are probably not stains, but "non Faded" areas.
I doubt the walls are "dirty". You can clean them but it's unlikely that the once covered areas will match.

I ran into the same predicament when I moved my children's bedroom furniture. I found that the "magic eraser" worked wonders to remove the dust lines. We ended up repainting in the fall, but this cleaned it up really well until then.

I have been a house painter for 17 years now. I have found a product called TSP works best. It removes everything, even years of built up cigarette smoke. It comes in a powder form that you mix with water.

Just wash them off and when they are dried real good, give the walls a new paint job.

You can repaint the walls or use windex and water solution.
