I would suggest at least once a week - but it depends on how large a cage you are using, what type of bedding, and how many hamsters are living in it.

Hamsters are typically very clean, only eliminating in one corner of the cage, or in certain areas. This means you usually only have to remove and replace the soiled bedding in those areas, and replace the bedding totally every week or two.

A good indicator for when-to-clean is when the cage begins to emit a strong odor. Make sure you also pick up any uneaten pieces of fresh vegetables or fruit - you don't want it to rot or attract insects!

You could clean it weekly, but you should clean it daily. I've cleaned my hamster's cage daily and it lived to be 5 years old, and has never gotten sick.

Whenever it gets really messy, I'd say no less than once a week. You should be able to tell, when it's time to change the bedding.
