I grew up in the southwest and was raised ina family of nothing but cowboys and cowgirls. So natrually I took after my family. I drive a truck and a motorcycle. I wear my gear proudly and never have a problem with it. A few weeks ago I was at a bar in Lufkin,TX. I was of my flirty self but I got no responces. Once again it happened about five days later. My girlfriend broke up with me becuase she didn't feel an attraction anymore. I'll countinue on the girlfreind thing. We rented Brokeback Mountain at the movie store (it was her idea,I wanted to wacth something funny). That was the last "cowboy" related thing we had done. So is this movie screwing the cowboy image up, or is just me?

Unfortunately the cowboys have gotten a bad rap. Broke back was only the beginning. In my area, we aren't called cowboys anymore for that exact reason, we call ourselves Ranchers. We usually have no problem with the babes. I really think it would be funny, if the ranchers/cowboys/cattle farmers started being like the oil tycoons. Now that Americans are hooked on Nebraska/Texas Corn fed beef, we need to jack up the price by 100%. Maybe the cowboys would look as good as an oil tycoon to those foxy ladies...(Say NO to Vegans!) Nothing more beautiful to a green pasture fill with a mix of Angus & Polled Herefords.

You know, I thought long and hard about your question. I think the cowboy image has been tarnished by people who really are ignorant about cowboys. In the media, being a cowboy doesn't mean what it used to and to Hollywood, well...I don't know why we worry about how they see cowboys. They can't get any profession right, especially cowboys. I, too, came from a long line of cowboys. My great-great uncles were in on the cattle drives up the trails, my great-grandpa was an excellent horseman and he taught my grandma and then her husband. My Grandma was 75 years old the last time she rode a horse. She stabbed him with her spurs and he bucked with her! She got him rode, but decided maybe she better quit riding. I am extremely proud of my cowboy heritage, I don't care what a bunch of ignorant people think! If you have a good long talk with yourself and were upholding the "cowboy code" when it comes to the way you treated your ex-girlfriend, then good riddance to her. You will find someone who values what you value and will be glad to take her home to your Mother. Good luck finding her and when you do, better tie her hard and fast!

That's why i never watched brokeback, so naturally i dont associate cowboys and that movie.
I grew up in california, but i love going down to texas and seeing a bunch of cowboys.
I think the movie might be ruining the cowboy image for some people, or they might not be into cowboys.. it really depends

There is no such thing as a cowboy thats NOT sexy. I LOVE cowboys, rodeos and the whole lifestyle/image. Always have. Always will. If she dumped you, thats her loss. She'll realize it one of these days. PLEASE, Don't give up on being a cowboy, yes, its a dying breed, but we cowgirls NEED you! You'll find your cowgirl. There's plenty of us out there.

Cowboys went out of fashion in the 80's.

I think it is the Brokeback thing that is messing up the mystique. Hollyweird strikes again, pushing their values where they do NOT belong. If John Wayne were still here he would kick all their asses, twice.

Cowboys have never been sexy! At least to me they are not! Cowboys are boring they are just into their trucks, ranches and country music! Sorry no offense!
