Everyone knows that all elections in Venezuela are rigged. Venezuela is ruled by a communist/leftist/socialist. Therefore it is by definition NOT a democracy, a government by the people, of the people and for the people.
p.s. Venezuela's government assassinates any dissenters so everyone plays along with the whole "popular" thing to save their lives. It's just not true.

Thye US electoral system is based on 1 person 1 vote - how much more democratic do you want ?
Of course we have the electoral college system & WE may theoretically be a constitutional republic. But it's pretty close.
Of course, Hugo Chavez only got 59% of the votes in the last election - better than W. But the 2004 US elections had a 60% turnout (of eligible voters), Venezuala only managed 56%.

That so called fact has been contested ,
Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez has been running an authoritarian regime. By various means he has taken control of the legislature, the courts, the armed services and the police. His thugs have been intimidating and even killing the regime's opponents.

Democracy doesn't mean that the government should only be elected by democratic means, it also means that it should govern democratically. That is, with consensus and transparency.
