I was shocked, I know he has always lived large with unpredictible animals but I always thought it would be an animal attack that wouldn't kill him but would send him into retirement and he would have to take it easier after that, but didn't think he would come to such a sudden tragic end out of nowhere. Only 44 as well, life is really short, even a really full life.

I was very shocked, and you? He was too young but he died doing what he loved. As my 4 yr old said to me this morning, Mommy Steve in heaven now taking care of all the animals there now? What could I say but YES he is. God wanted him to care for the animals up there more.
RIP Steve Irwin and Thank you for all you have done.

So shocked my mouth literally fell open........I love Steve Irwin.... and so do millions of other people. Damn stingray anyhow. I wonder if Terri will stay on in the business, they say Bindi Sue most likely will follow in her daddy's footsteps. I will miss him so much! Poor Terri, they seemed so in love and so perfect together. Crikey! what a bummer.

Not shocked at all, when you work around wild critters things happen and where he was shooting was out of his element. He worked with reptiles for years and gained a certain amount of predictability with them, sting rays presented a different problem. He was obviously a very talented and brave individual, and yet things can get out of control without ample time to react.

I was not shocked at all. I was kind of surprised he lasted as long as he did. When I heard the announcement on the radio I immediately thought it was an animal attack. When I got to work I looked up the story and found that death by animal was indeed the cause. Respect nature people. Take this lesson to heart.

I was real shocked. I love his show. I think it is tragic that his 2 children don't have a father now and I feel bad for his wife.

Sad yes, shocked no. He lived a dangerous lifestyle, and took a lot of chances. I think we should just be happy that he died doing what he loved.

It's so sad but remember he died doing what he loved to do. I read an article and a kid sent him a card that said god bless you. I thought that was nice. I just hope his children are ok.

I was shocked but also surprised it wasn't an alligator. I figured that would be the way he'd go.
