There is no problem, if it is your first ever period then congratulations!!
Find some cool way to celebrate, like get your mother to buy you a new outfit you have wanted or get your family to take you for a meal or special night out, periods are a good thing, as much as other girls may tell you otherwise – periods are only as good or as bad as you make them – get yourself onto some good sites to learn more about what is going to happen, different menstrual options (there aren't just tampons and pads to choose from!) and learn about all the positive things about periods.
Talk to your mother or older sisters if you have them, what they went through with their periods is going to be very similar to what you will go through in terms of how old they were when they got their first period, if they suffered cramps, any health problems, etc. they will be able to tell you a lot about it, but not everything, it really pays to learn about some things for yourself and keep a possitive attitude.
You have a pad with you so when it does come you simply use the pad, and that's it for the immediate problem, if you consider it a problem. If you find you have cramps or PMS there are a lot of things you can do to totally prevent these things - most people don't realise cramps are not an unavoidable part of periods, it just requires some knowledge about your body to deal with them.
Good luck.

If this is your first period, don't worry. When it comes it comes. If you continue to have the same cramps or other symptoms, make an appointment with a gynecologist, no matter how young you are. You also may have an infection. Nothing to worry about. Just see the doctor that is the best. If it is an infection you don't want it to spread or get worse. It may effect your reproductive system for the rest of your life. Take it from this nurse....go to the doctor.

talk to your school nurse. they understand this stuff, they deal with it all the time - with other girls your age. they can also help you with the pads and stuff, if you don't have enough. And they can help you understand it so you don't need to feel desparate.
And then, you don't have to go thru the potential embarassment of talking to a doctor, setting up the apt, etc. But,honestly, all women do know about it and are understanding. As are most men. Not boys, men.

You don't say how old you are, but it sounds as though you may be getting your first menstrual period? If that's so, never mind the internet or your best friend. Talk to your mom.
And what are you desperate about? It's a perfectly natural event, it happens to all women, and we all live through it. It just means we are normal, adult women. Nothing desperate about that!
