What if you break your arm, or you need a quart of milk? I can't understand what tips the scales in the balance of living so far from civilization. Is it just the privacy factor, or is there more to it?

i've lived in both big cities and the boonies, and i prefer the boonies. many of my city friends can not stand it...they need the outside stimulus of having a lot of options to do/choose from and cannot entertain themselves as well. as far as the drive...it took me just as long to drive all the way across the city in traffic for something as it does now to get to town (1/2 hr)...i've timed it to prove to my friends, it just seems like the city driving is shorter because of all the stimulii. as far as neighbors, they do tend to look out for one another more because we know there aren't a million eyes on us...a scream may go unhelped in the city because everyone thinks someone else is doing something, in the country the sherrif is called. otherwise, everyone fairly well leaves people be--no neighbors to complain about this-or-that. it takes the same amount of time for law/ambulances to arrive as the city...no traffic and less calls to respond to make up for the distance. country people learn to be more self-sufficient and better organized because we know if something is needed it isn't right around the corner. in the country i can choose if i want quiet or to go someplace with hustle-and-bustle, in the city it is harder to find someplace to get away for the quiet. basically, i get to choose how i want to be and live and what kind of environment (busy or calm) to be in rather than have it imposed on me....

Sometimes the "middle of nowhere" is peaceful and quiet and beautiful. Not everyone likes civilization. And, most of those places are accessable by some type of roadway and civilization can be reached in a few hours so it isn't as though the people could go shopping or whatever if they wanted to. For those people in the real wilderness, they are probably far too busy just staying alive to worry about civilization.

The peace and quiet is worth so much! If a person lives that far out, they would be very organized and have powdered milk and all kinds of extras. I live in a small town and we don't have one red stop light! We don't have a movie or anything for the kids to do other than lots of sports. But we can be anywhere within 30 min to allow the kids to take lessons or go to movies, shop in malls, etc. And we are only 1 hr from Dallas where you can get any kind of entertainment or food or excitement that you could need. It is nice here but we are growing too fast now. Dallas and it's suburbs are heading our way and in the mornings the traffic is backed up almost the whole way into Dallas. We can still get to work quicker from here than the ones in Dallas and they have to drive in traffic with stop lights! In the 70's I worked downtown Dallas and had only one stop sign on the way home and it was 6 miles from home! The majority of ppl here have to drive out of town to work. There are only min. paying jobs here in very few places but we have grown in that area also. We have 2 dollar stores and a Sonic now! Wheee! I long for the olden days when we knew everybody and their dog's name too!Best wishes!

For one I believe that it's the cost of living. It is cheaper to get homes that are in the middle of nowhere and people sometimes prefer to be away from the city life and in the quiet. I have been through areas where there were just stretches of road and a few houses and the thought frightens me. I wonder how long it would take for help to reach them and so on, but evidentally they know what they are doing and they don't mind it so much.

AWWwwww such a cute kittie,... *pats the head,.... nice kitty -

Nature, clean air, peace, quiet,.. less stress,.... if you can afford it of course.

Well if you had enough sense to live well and sensibly, you would know enough to be careful and not do anything stupid to break your arm. As well as know the rudiments of basic first aid.

Why buy a quart of milk when you can get it fresh from a cow. Uhmm you did know milk comes from cows, not the dairy section in the market,.....

Now if you were a kid growing up in the boonies, I can understand your angst,... missing out on socializing with peers in the big city, with all its crime and pollution, the shopping and the taxes, gangs of thugs, homeless and beggars, drug dealers and pimps who exploit and enslave women and children....

Yeah you're really missing out - living in the country away from all the amenities of civilization.

My cousin just left England for Novia Scotia.
Now she and her family live in a giant house literally in the middle of nowhere and she loves it.
I personally don't understand it, as she tells me how it's a trek just to buy groceries.
However, some people like it that way.
It's probably great for the kids.
Much less for my cousin to worry about.
My boyfriend's nephew was killed at age 2 when he was run over by a car. At the time, his Sister was living off a main street.
If I ever have a family, I will definately consider a cul-de-sac.
Some people just take it one step further.

I rented a house out in the Catskills once.
It was smack in the middle of a forest. No one around for miles.
Quite relaxing, actually.
It just depends on one's idea of Heaven, I guess.
One person's home out in the boonies might be another person's hell.
I know it would be mine.
I couldn't personally live that way.
I like to be in the middle of everything.

The reason i like to live in the middle of nowhere is because i just plain and simple don't like people, i know that's mean but when i lived in a community everyone around me was a pain in the rear, loud music, no respect for privacy, partying at all hours of the night, and reasons such as that....

I live in the middle of nowhere. I love it...no nieghbors for a 1/2 mile or so. I lived in the suburbs..and it started building up. A shopping center at the end of my street, more houses built on top of each other. People partying at all hours of the night. Drugs offered to my kid..my kid getting beat up by gang members. Traffic.. noise,....I can't see why anyone would want to live in the city. I walk through my woods, sit outside in the quiet and read, don't have to worry if my kids are out playing, have bonfires in my yard, look up and actually see stars at night..tons of them...I can't think of anything better.

Some people do not want the hustle and bustle of living in a city or suburban area. Personally, the rural and country areas are beautiful and a great place to live. Lots of peace and quiet. Very calm and relaxing. When I buy a house, it will be in a remote area away from the suburbs.

No. I do.. and it fairly is not great. it rather is a stunning section.. pleasing.. precise on the sea coast. whilst i became youthful it became rather stable interior the summertime through fact there are caravan web pages close to, so i will make friends with human beings on the web pages. it is likewise stable seeing as i like surfing and rock leaping. yet whilst wintry climate got here.. there became no one to play with, no one to bypass surfing with. We additionally get extra severe climate right here than in land. If it fairly is warm.. it fairly is boiling. it is great. If it snows.. we are snowed in. If it rains.. it fairly is tipping it down. a number of those situations make it much extra stable than it already is to get out of the section to bypass procuring etc. With petrol expenses growing to be it rather is a discomfort with it being 0.5 an hour far off from the closest city. Buses are some distance and few between, to boot as being costly. The bus experience into the closest city is an hour and a nil.5. So whilst i became youthful and that i had a Saturday job.. i could might desire to catch it an hour and a nil.5 in the previous i began out artwork. which potential getting up an hour and a nil.5 in the previous than i could might desire to if I lived nearer. standard to college it took an hour. So while maximum teenagers have been given up at 7.. I had to arise at 6. If I ever needed to bypass out clubbing.. i could might desire to stay at a friends domicile.. through fact the taxi back to my domicile could value approximately £70... and that's barely one way. it fairly is pleasing, in simple terms not functional, extraordinarily whilst there are infants residing there, or in case you have a job. it would desire to be extra suited while you're retired.. yet even then as you become previous.. and can desire to bypass to the well being middle etc.. it fairly is confusing. If there is an twist of fate.. there is not any one there that can assist you you. a house some miles away burnt to the floor some years in the past through fact the hearth provider could not get there in time. while you're questioning approximately moving to a desolate place.. although serene it rather is.. do not permit it fool you. stable good fortune x
