The closest one coming any time soon will be August 1, 2008. It may be possible to view from the extreme N.E. tip of the U.S, but will cover most of Europe and Asia, Greenland, Iceland and the Northeastern corner of the North American Continent. i dont believe a total solar eclipse has or will ever happen in the us. because there is thing ring or something that you have to be in to see it. and i dont think that ring crosses over the us. a total solar eclipse happend a couple of years ago so another one probobly wont happen for about another 50 years or so.
