its my first year teaching german and the principal of the school wants one of my classes to do a project on germany.could anybody think of any topics about germany.i can't think of anything.PLEASE HELP!!!!

That's easy: do a project about the "Rise and Fall of the Berlin Wall."
There's so much intrigue surrounding that, you could divide the timeline into periods (commonly, 4 if you have 4x9-week terms; 6 if you have 6-week terms) on the basis of either chronology or significant events, and then put on plays that depict the historical drama.
Don't forget to include the Berlin Airlift! Great stuff!

You can easily have students or small groups each do a project on a German state. (map, facts, coat of arms...)
Each student could choose a city in a German-speaking country and make a travel brochure for that city, including things such as a map, what to see, history, where to eat, where to stay,e tc. class could vote on where to take their imaginary trip.

October is German-American month. eAch student does brief report on famous American of German decent. (try Max Kade institute for ideas.
