If you aren't pro-choice, I want to hear your opinion about abortion. My feeling is, it is a last resort. I DO think it should remain legal only because if it doesn't, women will do other things like use coat hangers to terminate the pregnancy instead, or commit suicide if they are that desperate, and many women are. My other reason for being pro-choice is that young teenage girls get pregnant, too. I do not think they should have to suffer through junior high or high school, or drop out. It is true they could put the baby up for adoption, but having the baby could be harmful to their health and their education could be put in serious jeapordy. What are your thoughts on why you are pro-choice or pro-life?

Why do we have these euphemisms pro-life and pro-choice? Why not say pro-abortion or anti-abortion?

I am pro-life. I believe life is a good thing and should be available to all. I am pro-choice. I believe that people should have the choice whether to have children or not. However, I believe that this choice should not be exercised during pregnancy.

I am anti-abortion, if it's used simply as a means of contraception, but I accept that there are cases where it is ncecessary.

I think that sex education and contraception should be more widely available so that youngh people aren't put in the position of having a baby they (feel that they) need to get rid of. Likewise adoption, the amount of paperwork involed is rediculous.

Make abortion illegal? No. You cannot legislate against stupidity or ignorance, and if a woman can't have an abortion legally she will do it illegally, and dangerously.

First the term Pro-Choice is a miss definition of what you believe. You believe that a woman should have the right to terminate the life growing inside her. To in essence cause the death of the child that she helpped to create. You are not looking for a choice but a way out of a situation that you created. Forget the religious reasons for an anti-abortion point of view. Look at it this way, you are ending a life. You don't wish to feel guilty for ending this life. It is human nature to find convieniant reasons for your actions. It is easy to say that a womans health could be harmed by the birth of a child, but what about the risks to a womans health by having sex in the first place. One action creates life and the other destroys it. A really messed up situation when you think about it. The reality is that in todays world you are at greater risk by having sex than you are by having a baby. The statistics on both sides of the arguement bare this out. In the old days a woman would rather die than see any harm come to her child. In todays world a woman would rather see her child dead than have harm come to herself. The choice of adoption is basically a woman moving on with her life while protecting the life she helped create. She can now persue her dreams with out the guilt that comes with the taking of a life and she can do what is noblest. I am against abortion because it debases the woman, and provides an easy way out while causing harm to the innocent. The woman must go through her life wondering if indeed she did the right thing, if she is a good person, and if religious, how will she be judged by God, the creator of all life.

Well......

I think a woman should have the right to an abortion if having the baby could possibly kill her. Or if she was raped (after all, the conception wasn't her fault, and what kid wants to find out that he's the product of rape....?)

However, under other circumstances I don't think it should be allowed. If a baby is a product of consensual sex and the mother can have him/her without the possible result of death, than the parent(s) should have to deal with consequences. After all, you knew the risks. If it's really not in your best interest to keep the baby, there's always the option of adoption. I really think that it's unnecessary for someone to have to die just because of chance (and especially carelessness if the couple was having unprotected sex).

I'm very much for contraception, though (although I do not believe abortion is an acceptable method of birth control).

This is all just my opinion, though. By the way, you seriously deserve some e-cookies for not asking the question in a "z0mg! Pro-lifers entertain me with why your pathetic mind thinks Pro-life is teh bettar!!!111" way, which is what I've noticed a lot of people on this site do. I think you have some points worth thinking about, myself.

No matter what you call abortion, it is murder. There is a life at stake here, besides the pregnant woman's. Should we only listen to the woman's because the embryo cannot be heard? Or should we consider the unborn, too? It is sad that there is not enough support for some women, that they would consider killing their unborn children, or even themselves. This needs to change. But whatever they have to go through could not possibly be as bad as what a fetus has to endure by being aborted. Surely you have heard how gruesome it is! Certainly there should be exceptions made, especially when the mothers life is at stake. But do you really think that everyone seeking abortions have the greatest good in mind, when it comes to the baby? I don't. Let us all remember that at one time we were All fetus's.

Pre-born babies have as many rights as born babies. "Normal" people do not go around murdering other people, so why should they do it because the person is not born yet?

If the current (UK) government didn't recommend that Municipal Councils give council houses/flats to unmarried mothers there wouldn't be so many of them rushing to get cheap housing. If a woman feels it is not a convenient time in her career to have a child, she should have taken proper precautions to avoid getting pregnant. Yes, I know that "accidents happen" but then both of the pro-creators should take responsibility for their actions. I have four children and it wasn't always convenient to be pregnant at that particular time but I couldn't imagine what my life would be like now without my son and daughters and I certainly could never have lived with my conscience if I had even considered a termination.

The thing about the abortion debate is that the two sides are arguing entirely unrelated issues. Pro-life people say "abortion is bad". Pro-choice advocates say "The government not should be making personal decisions that like". It's not about abortion. It's about who gets to make the decisions.

Face it -- someone is going to choose. It's either going to be the individual, or it's going to be the majority through enacted laws.

The concept of reproductive freedoms is not whether you agree with the individual choices being made. It's whether you think the government should have the right to take away and mandate those choices.

Why can't people understand that freedom of choice is not a minority value, even if the majority happens to disagree with the minority's choice?

I feel like the only time an abortion should be performed is in cases of incest or if the baby is going to be extremely deformed or with a life threatening disease. Even in cases of rape you can give the child up for adoption.

so you basically think that its alright to take someone's life (murder) if the woman doesnt want the baby. well what i say to that is that why would you have sex in the first place if you dont want a baby. you know you're going to get pregnant and besides thats the only reason for sex --to reproduce the population and make a committment to your spouse.
in addition--> if you dont want the baby, then adoption is always an option.
