he needs at least 6 flakes. and thats too much times to change the water. the water needs only to be changed once a month. and thats if you have a filter. gettting a filter will support long life as the oxygen will do the fish good. and make sure the chloride is gotton rid of coz that kills the fish. buy anti chloride satchets at pet shops. while your their get plants. real ones to coz they like to chew the plants and its healthier than plastic ones. and lastly some gravel at the bottom, some lights, some ornaments, some other fish can deliver a more beautiful look and make it seem like a real thing, so the fish will not live a boring life.

you don't have to. The life of any fish will depend on if the water is filtered, or has air bubbles. Because all fish breath oxygen out of the water. But other than that gold fish are pretty happy being in a tank that is plain.

If you are using tap water you should buy something to add to the water to take out chlorine. Oh, and I wouldn't change the water every single day as it is hard on a fish when that happens. I would only change it about once a week unless it gets dirty faster.

Please do make the food float on the water, which causes air problem and it fails to swim. Keep a filter in this way the water will be good.
