Why so many white men marry Oriental girls but so few white women marry Oriental men?

Is this an economic thing? If so, is this going to change with more Oriental men taking up well-paid professional jobs in the West? Do white men find Oriental girls attractive? What do white women think of Oriental men?

Thanks for your answers. I think Need2know's answer has been helpful. I used the word Oriental because here in the UK, if I say "Asian", it would mean people from the Indian subcontinent. I used Oriental to mean Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese... It is not a racist term.

It is an insult to say that Oriental women marry ugly old White men to get a passport to the UK, USA or whatever. I know many mixed race couple who are compatible in age, educational background and appearance. The Japanese/Chinese/Korean wife comes from good family background and doesn't need an European/American passport. The white husbands are not old and ugly either. They are not leftovers as suggested by some of you. In fact, many of them are educated, professional and come from good, middle-class background. It is a very old-fashioned view to assume that in such marriages, the white partner is always old and ugly and the Oriental partner is always a young gold-digger. Not necessarily so!

I find the view held by so many of you that Oriental women are brought up as slaves who will do anything to please their men a bit disconcerting. I don't know where you get this idea from. Did you yourself or a close relative marry an Oriental woman? I know many couples where the husband is white and the wife is Oriental but my observation is that none of them is subservient in their relationship.

First, it's not "oriental" unless you're talking about a rug. The proper term is Asian.

Second, I am a Chinese male who is married to a Caucasian female. One of the reasons why you find so many Asian women with Caucasian guys is because Asian males tend to be "shy" around women. I guess you could say that it's a cultural thing. But because of this, Asian males are afraid to go up to a woman (of any race) and ask her out. (Note: this is of course, a generalization meaning there are exception to this.)

When I took an Asian-American course at UCLA, I remember an Asian woman saying that it's hard to get an Asian guy to ask her out because they are so shy.

I do not think it's an economic thing. Though if you go up to San Francisco, you can see a lot of Indian (not Native) males married to Caucasian females.

I do believe that Caucasian males do find Asians attractive, if not somewhat exotic. We have all heard about Caucasians having "yellow fever."

There was an article around 1999 or 2000 in the Times about how Caucasian women are now dating more Asian males. In the article, it states that it's almost chic to do so.

I am sure there are a lot of factors for why you see so many Asian girls/Caucasian guys vs. Caucasian girls/Asian guys. Or maybe it could be that Asian guys don't find Caucasian girls attractive.

I think its the subconscious desire by all women to be with men who are "mainstream". In the western world this means that oriental women will not find any difficulty to marry whites. Contrarily white women will think twice before marrying an oriental man in the western culture. I suppose the opposite would be true in oriental culture - more white women would marry oriental men but less oriental women would marry white men.

I've noticed a few men here where i live with girls who seem to be Filipino or tai lately you cant help but notice as 99%of people here were born here and they do seem to be with men who are quite a bit older i also think its because of the way they're brought up (to think men are the boss)also they never seem to leave the house without the husband this is just an observation really I've no idea

As a general rule, men tend to be more conservative than women in terms of adapting socially. You can see this even in language--men tend to hold onto their accents, while women often pick up the way people speak in their new homes. They are more quick to learn new languages as well. I think the same is true as immigrants move into new cultures--women are more likely than men to feel comfortable marrying into the dominant culture.

I know one thing for sure, every oriental woman i have seen is very beautifull and she is stuck on the arm of some bald fat guy who is loaded. I have not once seen an oriental lady on the arm of a young guy her own age who is good looking and not wealthy. You can tell ten miles off what is happening. it could also be that the culture for women in the asias works well with the traditional marriage roles. a meek woman that takes care of a home or something along those lines. personally can blame men for leaving the country to find a wife.

In my experience many men find small (some would say doll like) women very attactive. East Asian women are on the whole small, whereas western people are [incresingly getting] larger. Maybe western women are less attractive to Asian men!?!
