First - don't put your email address out on the web ANYWHERE it's just asking for more trouble than you could possibly dream of.

Next, I've ridden bikes since I was your age.

Back then (dark ages) it was definitely not kewl for girls to ride - it was rare. I did have a few girl-friends who rode, but we never talked about it at school or told our non-riding friends about it.

I didn't ride because it was cool, I rode because it was fun, and challenging. I liked being the only girl on a ride (I still do). I'm an old lady now, but I still love to ride, I love to learn and try new stuff, and I love the challenge and the adrenaline rush it gives me.

My best advice? If you like to ride and enjoy the challenge, go for it!

Since girls learn differently than boys, you probably can actually pick up the mechanics of riding faster and better than the guys. If you have a local track or bike shop, ask about classes for beginning riders. A class can teach you more in a weekend than you might learn in a year from your brother and his friends

If that's not an option, ask an adult you like that rides if they would teach you. Ask if you can do it sometime that your brother and other friends aren't around. That way you can concentrate on learning, and not be bothered by your brother and friends.

It's usually eaiser to learn from a stranger or an adult friend than it is from a relative or friend your own age.

If you like the gear, the look of the riders, and just the general feeling that you get by being part of that group - but when you ride you're nervous, tense and constantly frustrated or afraid -- you'll probably be better off giving it a pass and finding something else that's kewl and that you love doing.

Happy Trails!

It is cool for anyone to ride, so long as you don't act like a jerk. I wish more girls rode back when I used to ride all the time. Just keep riding and practicing, after a while, it gets easier. Just know what your limits are. When you exceed your own limitations is when bones get broken. If you start now, just think how good you will be when you turn 16.
