reading tabs can be confusing. I can but dont like to. I found it easier to learn from self help videos. A good beginners video can get you started on basic chords then your off. Plus some videos do show you tabs and how to read. As you advance then advance up to a higher level video.

Tablature represents the strings on the guitar, from one (high E) to six at the bottom (low E). Where the numbers on the lines, represent the fret numbers. So, if you have a number 3 on the third line from the bottom, you place your finger on the third string from the bottom of the guitar neck as you hold it. Providing you are right handed and place your finger behind the third fret. Pluck the string. When you see an 0 on any line, you play that string without holding it down. ie An open string. Follow that pattern for all strings and numbers. Good luck.

i'm learning bass guitar and i find tab easy. numbers are frets and 1 to 6 are the strings, you just hold down the fret no on the said string and o means open, ( ya play it without holding down against a fret.) You dont need to be able to read music and its easy peasy, try it. lots of luck to you.

ps, you would play each note. one at a time. it would be open open 3rd fet ,6th fret., and so on, the numbers will be sitting on the appropriate string, now do you get it, i hope so coz it is easy....

If your fingers are numbered 1,2 3,4 with the little one being your little finger and the frets of a guitar are numbered 1 - through from the nut then it should be easy to follow where each finger should be. You will need to practice to get good at it. Personally I use chords and practice scales.
