Republicans from countries that still have colonies or are trying to get their colonies back are imperialists. Read more about the history of the world and you will find the countries that have imperialist values that they have carried into the Modern Day.
This was the source of the rift between FDR and Winston Churchill. Winston wanted to restore the British Empire not England. FDR wanted to rebuild England but not help recover her colonies.
