I always thought a snake or a croc would have killed him....Sad day for his family.

It is surprising. Stingrays can be really painful, but don't often turn fatal. It was just rotten luck that it got his heart.
At least is was a freak accident though. If it had been a croc, snake, water buffalo, or something it would be like "Well, he finally took too big a risk." This way it was just a dumb accident and everyone can fondly remember all the dumb risks he took that didn't kill him, but were fun to watch.

i'm very unhappy, yet not extraordinarily shocked. Steve Irwin lived an particularly risky existence and took many opportunities with wild animals. To die from a stingray, nevertheless, is a real marvel. they are just about in no way deadly.the worldwide will grieve on the shortcoming of this form of character, and that i mourn for his spouse and teenagers. relax in peace, Steve.

Stingray stings rarely kill. But then again they usually sting people on their feet or legs.....so a shot to the chest must have been what doomed him.
(Somehow i didn't picture him dying of old age in a nursing home.....)

I have always said play with fire you get burnt and that's what happened .....peace and love to his family that gut brought some entertainment to our screens if no one else did.
