could be a number of things, but first babies tend to come late.

The due date is an estimation. The typical "allowable" time for pregnancy is 38-41 weeks. That's a pretty broad window of opportunity. The fact of the matter is, the due date is based on your Last Menstrual Period (LMP); however if you spot even a few days, most doctors will count that as a period, and that will throw off the calculations.
Doctors aren't perfect. That's why its called "PRACTICING medicine." But remember too that Mother Nature knows what's going on - women have been doing this for YEARS without the help of modern science - modern science just makes things a bit easier!

Due dates are only an estimate. No one can tell you exactly when you're going to have your baby even if you know the exact when the baby was conceived.
Only a small % of babies are born on their due dates, and thats just luck.

Apart from mistakes (like forgetting the exact date of your last period), we are talking averages. Some will be late some will be early. Then, every pregnancy is different, age, health, physical condition of the mother and, size of the baby ... and a couple of thousand things (I'm exaggerating) come into play. Your period doesn't start every 15th at 9:32 AM and 41 seconds.

Sometimes babies just come late or early. All my kids were 3 weeks early and my due dates were correct.
