There a sharks in the Med, and not all of them live on gigantic luxury yachts. Jelly fish are nasty but you'd have to be very unlucky to die even from multiple stings. Sea urchins' spines are painful (consider wearing those horribly unfashionable rubber swimming shoes where sea urchins abound - Croatia for instance). The box jelly fish is deadly, but likes warm water - above 26° C. and lives off the Great Barrier reef. Australia has more deadly fish, reptiles, insects and spiders than any where else in the world - but hey - I'm still here. Worrying is a mug's game.

First of all some species of sharks have made unprovoked attacks towards humans. What happened to Steve Irwin was an accident and normally stingrays do not attack humans. Like with any marine enivironment, you have to respect all the creatures in the sea. Do not fear them, but respect them. Take the time, for yourself to study the marine environment to where you are going, and learn abou the sea creatures. Just look at them and do not touch anything that you are not familiar with. And always swim with a group and never by yourself.

There's jellyfish that 'll give you a sting but I didn't think there were any Box jellyfish or man of war there. Sea urchins are irritating if you step on them in bare feet. People holiday in the Med all the time. You'd have heard if there was a problem.
All the really poisonous stuff is near Australia - snakes, blue octopus, box jellyfish, fish that poison you if you eat them, not to mention the shells that you pick up off the beach and the snail inside stings you.

There's one venomous species of octopus- the blue-ringed octopus, found only in Australia. See reference 1, below.
There are a number of venomous sea snakes, all 50 of which are dangerously toxic- with venom at least 10x as toxic as that of rattlesnakes. See reference 2, below.
Stonefish and lionfish have venomous spines, among other reef fish. See reference 3.
Cone snails (reference 4) have a remarkably potent venom, along with a stinger than can penetrate a wetsuit.
There are also a number of jellyfish and soft corals with poisonous stinging cells.

Jelly fish would be the meds greatest threat. But simple things like Weavers and sea snakes are a bit of a concern because they are quite hard to spot.
Apart from that I would be more worried about getting skin cancer from overexposure to the sun!
I wouldn't worry to much about them though the chances are quite slim!

You must remember whenever you are in nature, you have crossed the safety net. You are in their house, and lots of animals they may see harmless can and will be very dangerous. But do watch out for, jellyfish, sea snakes, squid, all types of fish, stingrays, octipus, seals, otters, whales and the list goes on and on. Just be careful cause they are out there.

The only type of sea creature that really worries me is a jelly fish. Don't worry about stingrays and sharks, they don't just randomly attack people.
