There are two programs I recommend for speeding up a dial-up connection. However, even with an optimized dial-up connection, it would not be feasible to download large files, such as video and music files.

I recommend you use a download manager. It speeds up download and it can resume downloading if you should lose the connection. There are several free download managers available, but I recommend Free Download Manager (http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/). It is very reliable, no adware or spyware, and feature rich.

The second program helps optimize the connection, TCP Optimizer. It is a simple program to use; you just choose the Internet connection you have and the program does the rest. You can download it at: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php.

Not going to happen!
If it was possible, we wouldn't have moved away from dialup.

Sorry to be negative, but these download accelerators are not much use for your purpose.

They work by fetching other links on the web page you are currently viewing so that when you click the links they open faster as they information has already been downloaded.
They work very well on sites that are mostly text with a few small images.

There is another type of download accelerator that connects you to the web sites via their own servers. These servers compress the data from the originating site before passing it to you and also work well with text based sites with a few images.

The problem you have is that most music and video is already heavily compressed.
You cannot compress something that's already been compressed, at least not by any worthwhile amount.
You can test this yourself.
Open your favourite file zipping utility, eg: WinZip.
Now try zipping a JPG picture and an MP3 sound file.
Once done, look at how much smaller the zipped copies are compared to the originals.
Now you see the problem?
All WinZip or WinRAR etc do is compress files, and as I said earlier you cannot compress something that's already compressed.

But even if you could, you cannot possibly download data any faster than your dialup connection can run at, which is around 7Kb per second maximum.
Any software salesman that tries to tell you otherwise is telling lies, ask them to demonstarte using already compressed files like .WMV and MP3 etc. Beware if they demonstrate using .BMP pictures or .WAV sounds, these will compress.
