The problem is the pool at my grandma's house is now more of a pond then a pool. It has been this way for at least 2 years now if not more and there are tons of frogs and tadpoles in it. The reason it got this way to begin with was that the pump system got messed up and the drain stopped working. Is there a way to have it drained externally by a company or something along those lines. She wants to try and sell her house but the pool is a big blemish on the property especially considering all the frogs that live there now. Thanks for any help you can offer with this.

If it's been sitting that long, forget using a sump pump as some people have suggested. It wouldn't last 5 minutes. Same goes for a syphon set up. There will be a lot of debris in there.
Use what we pros use, a 3 inch Trash Pump. The better ones can pump out 70% solids as well as liquid. You will be able to rent one for about 125 dollars at a local rental or less. Depending on the pool size it will take 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours to pump down. Make sure you get enough discharge hose to go where you need to (catchbasin or ditch) and that you got 2 lengths of suction hose. They usually will only give you one 10 ft length, you'll need 20 feet. If there's a weir on the end of the suction hose, remove it if possible. It will eventually plug up with debris. The pump can handle anything you throw at it, including dead cats and tin cans.
The frogs? Most of them will actually go for a ride and escape unscathed, but a little dizzy on the other end of the discharge hose. There will be a few casualties, but can't really be helped unless you go netting beforehand.

If the pool is on higher ground then any point near by, preferrably a road with sewers, a garden hose is all you need. Syphon the water out by securing one end of the hose under water in the pool at its deepest point. With the other end being BELOW the level of the end in the pool - suck until water comes out, drop the hose and it will drain. It is possible to do this without getting water in your mouth, but you'll have to practice that.

You can go to your local tool rental place and rent a pump. If you live in town you may have to get a permit to pump the water into the storm sewer.

Will the pool be used again?

A sump pump will drain down to the last inch or two where other means will have to be utilized.

Yes, definitely. You can rent a sump pump and do it yourself (much cheaper) or you can have someone do it for you. Or, ask someone at a pool supply for the name of someone who does this. Good Luck!

you can get a portable sump pump at your local home improvement store. Use this to pump it out. The smaller ones allow you to use your garden hose.

Yes, its called syphering. Take a hose. cut the metal end off. Then put one end in the pool and the other to your mouth. Now, suck. ha. Let the water come to your lips, sometimes you do end up swallowing some(you will live), and tadaaaaaaaaaaa.
