Go to your local public library and ask for the Wold Almanac for 1998. The reason you ask for the NEXT year is the events for the PREVIOUS year will be listed.
You can get some of the events already listed in the answers. You can also get more. And, if this is a homework assignment, you may have more events than your classmates. Not just the "big" events.
