When I moved into a new rental house, I always heards strange noises. One time I go into the kitchen and a ball slowly rolls across the floor then slowly rolls back. I freaked. I left. A day or two goes by and nothing. Then one morning I awake to the sounds of giggling. The giggling of a little girl in the closet right beside my bed, right behind me. I was frozen with fear, literally I could not move! The door begins to creek open, my heart actually skips beats. I jumped up and ran outside. Never went back in by myself and moved shortly after.

Dear "me,"

Please pardon the leading analogy, however, your post sounds like a fun topic, and a great set-up for an episode of "Ghost Stories by the Fire-side."

I'm known, by many, as being a "firebrand," and my own take is, that we are being chased by too many "real" monsters, to be looking in reverse. I tend to think we are running into the arms of some awful beasts that we don't even recognize, as such.

Our (yours and mine!) "society," as we know it, is being swallowed whole by our own blindness ( ! ), in support of which, I offer the following:

"Eminent Domain!" - The government, you know, "...of, by, and for the people, deriving it's JUST powers from the CONSENT of the governed," may, at it's discretion, take your home (and land) because Wal-Mart could use it to bring in some revenue!

2005- A rancher, in Arizona, made the mistake (human?) of following his instinct to defend his family, home, and property against two interlopers, intent unknown at the time, whom he caught on his land, inside of the fenceline, like the unlawful trespassers they were, and literally "beat them up!" The two, not even lawful (law, you know, as in we the people voted for this, and for they who codify, and enforce it on our behalf) citizens, let alone innocent of invading this man's privacy, and perhaps, posing a threat to the safety of any who may have encountered them should they have seen the "other side" first (try judging the intentions of one who sneaks into your home or your yard - what's the real thought you'd come up with?) Result? :

The trespassers sued the rancher, in a United States Court! They, according to the Court, now OWN the ranch! Worse, yet, there are those who relly do JUSTIFY this decision by the Court.

Hey, it's closing in on us while we idle away the hours looking back at whether or not the people among us who went, literally, to war for the freedom that we enjoy - to have such conversation, or the say something less-than-positive about our government, aren't lined up against a near-by wall or post, and shot.

I really DON'T "hate to" bring this up, but, we NEED to be scared, AND to keep our eyes on the ball.

Doesn't "progressive" mean forward-looking? If it does, then why not, all of us, of every political stipe and philosophy, pull together and cease to be "afraid?"

My best friend moved into a fairly new rented house about 6 years ago, and I always felt creeped out in it. I hated to be on my own in there, and usually I'm fine with that. My Nan's house was haunted (or so everyone said) when I was growing up, and I never felt uncomfortable there. Anyway, when I'd try to sleep in her spare room I'd always hear banging and scraping noises from above me, and would just put it down to branches or raccoons or something. But then one night we were with some friends watching a film in the lounge, and a little white dove ornament that she had fastened to the archway just fell to the floor...Doesn't sound all that unusual, but both of us were really freaked out, like we knew something horrible was going to happen, and a few nights later I was attacked, beaten and raped by one of the guys that her boyfriend had brought to the house the night the dove fell.

I'll tell you what has scared me the most so I'll never forget it! It was a dream that I had. I was in a dark void and it was black all around. Then a line of fire appeared and then the scene suddenly changed and I was above the fire and I could feel the heat from the fire. I was slowly sinking down toward the fire with my hands stuck to my sides! It was terrifying!! There was horrible droning going on and I was sick with fear! I was trying to fight with all my might to keep from sinking into the fire but I was paralyzed with my hands stuck to my side like that.
Suddenly I awoke and was in a cold sweat with my heart thudding in my ears. It took awhile for me to calm down and I kept looking at the familar around me until I was peaceful once again. I could not go back to sleep for anything in the world!

Well mine isn't that entertaining, but the scariest thing that has ever happened to me was not being able to find my son in a shopping center. I eventually did, the little **** was hiding in the window display case and another customer came in and seen me freaking out and screaming for him in the middle of this store, and she asked if I was looking for a little boy, I said "yes" and she told me where he was. I didn't know if I should throttle him or hug and kiss him. I did the latter but I just about died from that experience.

I take the Navaho view, although I'm not Native American. The decisions of the Tribal Elders must consider what effect their direction will have on their 7th follow-on generation.

I lament the conditions of chaos, deprivation, conflict and competition for resources my great-great-great-great Grandchildren will face if we continue the level of chaos and conflict we face now. I'm scared that I won't have done enough to fix what I can, now.

Surely, a change has to come.

I woke up one morning to the alarm to get the kids up for school. They were 15 and 17 at the time and I had had surgery so I was just going to holler for them to wake up instead of hauling myself up real quickly. I started to yell and I couldn't think of my daughter's name!! It scared me so badly. I went through all of the names in the whole extended family twice and got up before I thought of Heather, my baby girl! It happened again a few days later. I am sure it was due to the anesthesia I had had but it was scary!!!
