Try using task manager to shut down the process. Either right click on your toolbar at the bottom of your screen, or Ctrl+alt+del, and choose processes and close iexplorer.exe.

You also could use any browser to download updates.

Maybe your computer needs a break...

Ctrl + Alt + Delete buttons will pop open a Windows task Manager.. in which you can select Internet Explorer and press End Task. Then it will close, give it some time. Don't send an error report. Turn off your computer and do something else for a while or after waiting at least ten seconds, turn your computer on. See if that works...

I don't why IE 7 is not working properly. But, the good news is that you can use Firefox to download Windows updates. You will need to download and install a plugin for Firefox. Here is the download link:

If it doesn't close you need to press with the keyboard CRTL+ALT+DELTE and go to procces and it should say something like ieploere.exe(cant spell) click on it and press end process there will be a box pop-up and say that process may do something just click yes or ok w/e it says and it will close the program with no damage to your system.
