Doesn't it seem like a lot of kids are using Yahoo Answers to get strangers to do their homework for them? How many teachers have had to sit through a description of The Battle of Waterloo, as written by britneyrocks64?
Now, I may be dating myself, but I remember the days when homework was a pain and you had to go to the library and actually look something up, and read a real book. Do they exist anymore? Do kids even know what the Dewey Decimal system is? Your thoughts?

Oh, will you marry me?
I'm so delighted that you've brought up the subject! It's ridiculous enough that kiddies these days are allowed to have open textbooks during tests, but good grief! Can't they even be bothered to plagarize their own essays? If they have the physical coordination to type their homework questions into THIS site, why are they so hostile to the notion of Googling their own research? And don't they understand that some of their homework doesn't require anything more but for them to sit and THINK, for awhile?
Opinions? Fine. Ask! Perspectives? It's always enlightening to look at a subject from different viewpoints!
But simple FACTS? Look them up yourselves!
And THINK for yourselves!
LEARN SOMETHING!
P.S. (Don't take the marriage proposal too seriously.) (I'm fickle.)

If you don't learn how to study, how to find things out your education is incomplete and you will find it harder to cope with life. As you say it was the case once that you had to go to the library to look things up, now you can use the internet. That is not necessarily a bad thing but when the kids can't even search the net themsleves something is clearly going wrong. One teacher I had, used to say that intelligence was not just knowing things but knowing how to find information. Dewey Decimal system - I would be surprised if many knew and even more surprised if they cared. Dumbing down seems to be the norm. They will find out too late that the American Dream is not realised except by hard work and being able to use knowledge - we are in the information age!!

We are living in a different world today, everything is to have the easy way. Classes allow cheat sheets, what are you treaching the kids, you can cheat in the outside world? No brain work, eventually there will be chips set in your brain to work all thing. Its fast food, quick noodles fast cars and quick fix formulas. Humans have lost patience. Wonder what they are rushing for? We are preparing a bunch of lazy citizens to take care of the world.

Well I'm a senior in high school and we come on here b/c it's easier. I don't personally come on yahoo answers, but I do use a search engine and well it helps us to get stuff done fast when we need to do other things. Now as for the kids that come on here to get answers then they're not so bright b/c I know that I wouldn't trust the people on here b/c well they say anthing that pops in their head. lol!

Did going to the library help, or did the information help? The internet is here to stay, perhaps it is a new legitimate source for information?
I never understood why they don't let students use resources during tests, like the textbook. It's not like you're not allowed to use a book to help you in real life.

yeah, i don't like that. i just answer such questions with, "sorry, i don't do other people's homework". they should study on their own... no wonder education is going to hell.
