Absolutely not! The movies are good, but they are nowhere near the books. They leave out an unbelievable amout of detail and subplot, especially as the series progresses.

It would be good to watch the movies, they'll refresh your memory about the basic plot, but it would be far better to reread the books. The movies are like condensed versions of the books, but they also have the director's personal stamp on them and so there are differences. Stuff is left out or changed in the movies, so I'd reread them if I were you. It will take a bit of time, but it will be worth it in the end because you'll catch the details that the movies don't show. Book 5 and especially Book 6, will make more sense and be more enjoyable if you have the information from the previous books fresh in your mind.

not really. Understandably they have to leave a lot of things out of the movies in the interest of pacing. I would really recommend reading the books instead, especially the 4th would be necessary to know what's going on. You could probably get away with just watching movies 1 -3, but Goblet of Fire (the book) has a lot of things that need to be known in order to get what's going on in Order and Half Blood.

Sort of. The movies leave out a lot of stuff, though. The fourth movie cut A LOT out. You'd understand the plotline better if you read the books.

some stuff might confuse you. Try and read all the books though, they're so great. they're 5987340938562409568245404549 times better than the movies
