This is an equation so to solve it you must keep both sides of the equals sign equal. Therefore:

1. subtract 21 from both sides.
2. x + 21 - 21 = 65 -21
3. now 21 - 21 = 0
and on the other side 65 - 21 = 44
4. so, x + 0 = 65 - 21, therefore
5. x = 44
6. now go back and put in 44 for x in the original equation and see if it balances, which it does.

Ok RedNeck...try this

x + 21 = 65

Subtracting 21 from each side of the equation,

x + 21 - 21 = 65 -21

x = 44

Good luck!

x+21=65 ............. origional equation

x+21-21=65-21 .............. subtact 21 from each side, the 21's on the left side the eqation cancel each other out because 21-21 will always=0

x=65-21.................. solve the right side

x=44 ...................... your answer

summed up: the first two ? are 21 and the last is 44

remember that you always want to get the x on a side by itself, and you do that by transfering everything next to the x onto the other side of the =

I hope that helped :)
