I had this as an idea for anyone who was struck by the sudden loss of a great naturalist and educator in Steve Irwin. Since his lifelong passion was animals, and educating people about their beauty and wonder, I thought it might be a nice way to pay honor to his memory to visit my local zoo.

Please consider this as a gesture in memory of him, and consider joining your zoo as a member, and teaching your children or friends about animals.

For those that don't know where a zoo is, take some time to lookit up online. You can try this site:

www.aza.org (it's getting lots of hits today, so it may be slow or down)

In addition, the cost of the zoos is used to care for the animals and find educational outreach programs. So, spending the money that way is about as good as donating it, and in some places a membership is partially tax deductible.

As for time, I do work (2 jobs in fact), but I plan on taking my girls to the zoo Sat am. It's not just people with no jobs who can go to the zoo, y'know.

I'm gonna go to the Baltimore Aquarium sometime this week to support his cause! They have a new area in there dedicated to Austrailian animals...pretty sure that you can make a donation or pay your respects in there! Gonna miss that show and him!!

I already have a membership to my local zoo and thankfully I live in St. Louis where the zoo is free. So I will definitely go to the zoo this week as a gesture of his memory. I loved watching his show.

That is a very nice gesture. I sometimes help my sister pick up donated scraps of meat and take them to the zoo near her home. I can only help a few times a year, because I live about 1 1/2 hours away.

That's a nice thought, I'm not sure if I'll be able to go to the zoo this week though.
