Use the word "a" because "utopia" begins with a "y" sound.

If used at all it would be "a" because there is no vowel sound. Yu is not a vowel sound. Now if Utopia is a specific place you don't use "a". I am going to Utopia. Now if utopia is a type of place then it would be, I am going to a utopia.

theoretically, when writing a consonant should come before a word that begins with a vowel. there are always exceptions, but i think in this case a utopia sounds better.

A--it goes by the sound and "ye" is not a vowel sound. An honest utopia is with "an" though!

Use "a"

This is one of the only times that the rule of "use
'an' with consonants" is not in effect; because the word starts with a "y" sound.
