That should be obvious. Stop using the internet... FOREVER.
The best way, is to take steps to avoid it and report it.
This has been working for me for many years.
I signed up and started using a free e-mail address from Yahoo.com a good number of years ago. I bet it was 1997 when I first signed up.
I use my Yahoo e-mail address whenever I have to register for a product, or want to get the sales specials from legitimate vendors and stores.
Many of my initial points of contact are through my Yahoo e-mail
through the e-mail address that appears a various websites.
I religiously use the REPORT SPAM feature with my Yahoo e-mail. There is always lots of e-mail sitting in my BULK folder.
The Yahoo e-mail system has improved greatly over the years. The FREE e-mail can hold 1GB of old e-mails. I can get my e-mail from any computer, since it is web-based. I can PROGRAM the options to read my regular e-mail, so I really do not have to travel with my own computer. (I do travel with my own computer anyway).
The Yahoo e-mail system provides it's own Norton Anti-Virus scan on attached files. It's awesome.
Free e-mail from Hotmail and gmail are equivalent.
SPAM, Spoofs, Phishing attempts are a general nuisance.
I hope that you find this tip useful.
Good Luck

Prevention is definitely easier than the cure when it comes to spam, but even then there are things you can do such as signing up for a service that gets confirmation from a sender before forwarding it on to you. This is because 99% of all spam is automated. No response = no getting through to you.
Also, consider spam filtering software for your computer. I like Mailwasher because it's very accurate and spam is gone with just a single button press. Plus, it works with Hotmail and Yahoo accounts (you may need to be a paid user). There are free as well as paid versions for you to try.

Once your email address is on a spammers list it is almost impossible to get off. Right now, your e-mail address (along with millions of others) is on a CD being sold from the back rooms of software shops from Bangladesh to Botswanna and from Norway to the Netherlands.
However there are several things that you can do to prevent even more spam.
1. Start by removing your e-mail address from your Yahoo profile,if it is on it. The spam-industry has programs that are continusously crawling the web looking for the "@" symbol which is a sure sign the the word before it and the domain name after it is an e-mail address!
2. Use a longer address. The spam industry uses programs that try sending e-mail to all known domain names. Example: a program might start trying to send out e-mails to everyone starting with aaaaa@INVALID.com and continue down to zzzzz@INVALID.com. Using a longer e-mail address will make this harder to do.
3. Never click the "Unsubscribe Link" in any e-mail. This will only confirm to the spammers that your e-mail address is indeed real and that you are reading their garbage. In fact, do not even open any e-mail from anybody you don't know or trust. Many spams are not only annoying but contain viruses of other malware. Just delete 'em without opening 'em!.
You can however click that "Unsubscribe Me" button from businesses that are well known and that you trust. Walmart... yes. Someone selling Viagra...no.
4. Open up a second e-mail account. Whenever, a website requires you to register using your e mail address, use this secondary address. There are many unscrupulous websites that will sell you address to others or bombard you with spam themselves.
5. Download a free copy of SiteAdvisor. SiteAdvisor will alert you when you search (Google, Yahoo, MSN, search only) of websites that are known to send out spam. This can help you avoid registering with any sites that are known to spam people.

Treat your e-mail address just like you would your telephone number or home address....only give it out to those that you absolutely trust!

Firstly, have a throwaway email address for when you need to enter your email address on the internet.
Choose an email address that is difficult for spammers to guess. They have programs that generate and guess at email addresses - so if you had an email address like John.Smith@wherever.com you should change it to something less common - say smithjohn@wherever.com (without the dot).
Also use an ISP which filters out spam - like Yahoo or AOL. Some ISPs charge extra to do this - Tiscali hold your head in shame ! Norton anti virus can also filter out spam.
Guard your 'real' email address like you would an ex-directory phone number. Never reveal it to anybody except friends or family or professional people like your boss. Let's be careful out there!

Delete all your email accounts and donate your PC to charity. You will never receive another PC.
Beyond that, there is no way to prevent spam. You can fight it, filter it, block it, and occasionally switch addresses to escape it for a while. But you will never stop if forever,

Use a yahoo or other web based email address when you sign up to ANYthing online...never use your ISP address.
Yahoo has great spam filters and you can set your junk mail filters to delete Spam instantly.
I never get spam to my ISP mailbox because I never give that address for anything online - its for trusted friends and family only.
Good Luck :-)

There is nothing you can do to stop spam. We all suffer from spam. I just delete it and it is gone.

Take a sledge hammer to your p.c!, On a serious note most mail servers offer the ability to block not only specific email addresses but also specific domains like all from hotmail e.t.c

Change your email address and be ever so careful who gets it. Guard it with your life. Putting in dots in the name like John.Smith is good because it throws off automated systems that do first and last names.
