I've always put the laundry in the washer, put the soap in, then turned the machine on...

I moved in with my boyfriend and his family, and his mom is telling me that I have to turn the washer on, put the soap in, THEN the laundry.........

Which is the correct way?

Sometimes the detergent will stain clothes, so, start the washer first, then detergent, agitate to blend the detergent in, then add clothes.

There is no correct way other than doing what the label on your soaps tell you to do. I sort my clothes and wash them according to what the labels on the clothes say to do and my laundry turns out fine. I hope this helped you. Plus good luck on living with your future in-laws LOL in the end just do what works best for you.

The water, soap, laundry way is good if you are using a powdered detergent. Otherwise, the soap may not dissolve completely & clump on the clothes. W/liquid detergent it doesn't really matter very much how you do your laundry.

Both will work. Personally, I put in the laundry first, add the soap, and then start the machine.

The reason for putting the soap in first while washer is filling is to dissolve the soap. No soap build up on your clothes.

Water, soap then clothes. The hot water helps dissolve the soap and disperse it throughout the tub so that all the clothes are covered before starting the wash.'

Also, if you put the clothes in first, you risk staining the fabrics with the soap. Even the water pouring into the tub in one particular spot could damage the fabric.'

Laundry first - turn machine on and let fill with water, add detergent - this is so the detergent does not make spots on the clothing and is sure to mix in to the water well.

The liquid soap container says to put soap in first. Maybe pouring the concentrate on some fabrics can ruin them.

water and soap then clothes, so it has a chance to disolve and mix in the water, otherwise some clothes some of the soap is wasted because it's poured on the clothes instead of mixing in the water to clean the whole load.

yeah some people prefer to do it that way the reason for it is that on most laundry powder boxes it advises to do it like that coz, if you dont dilute the powder into the water first before adding the clothes you can end up with specs of white powder on your clothing
