It may help for you to look at the "thumbs up" and "thumb down" ratings.

Check out all of the ones with, at least, one "thumbs up." The answer to your questions is in a bit of all of these.

The "thumbs down" answers also give you a clue about what it is not, and answers that don't apply to your question. "Cyberspace" is not another dimension, or some kind of alternate "universe" like in "The Matrix." Cyberspace is just the sum total of all the information stored electronically. Your music CD's and DVD videos are all, technically in cyberspace. You access this cyberspace when you play these back on some electronic device.

The internet is the network of computers that are set up to allow access to the data contained within. In a small part, it also includes yours when you download sites and read and send email.

The internet is a large group of individual networks that are interconnected allowing information to cross the individual network boundaries. As all the networks use a common addressing scheme allowing for each node to have a unique address, it is possible to make information available to anyone on these interconnected networks. FYI, the internet could work just fine without DNS, you would just need to know the IP address of the node you wished to reach. DNS just takes the easily remembered domain name and crosses it to one or more IP addresses.

The 'main' backbones are 7. They're known as DNS, and control the biggest "bunch" of packet traffic all around the globe. All ISPs are subsidiaries of these DNS and sell you a batch of "hours" to spend online while using a given IP.
