Echinacea drops, not the pill form, seems to work for most people like some kind of miracle cure for a year or so, then seems to be much less effective. But ive saved many a work day by dosing up when I feel it coming on and 8/10 times it would stop the cold coming altogether. Now it doesnt work at all so have to trust in Vit C taken regularly (the Boiflavinid kind, your body cant absorb it otherwise). Up to 1000mg a day is OK for medium term use from what I can gather from research etc. Good luck.

Echinacea drops...only the swiss firm BIOFORCE ones. I have turned a cold back several times with it. Always have it on stand by at work and at home should the first sign of a cold develop. Also take zinc and vitamin C high strength. Also a tip, if you are in a room where someone has sneezed or shows signs of a cold, breathe through your MOUTH not your nose. The virus wants to be in the warm sticky atmosphere of the nose to multiply quickly. In the mouth the digestive juices will help to render the virus less potent. In winter months also, put a little vaseline inside each nostril in the morning. That way the virus will be trapped and be unable to reproduce. Hope you are able to chase it away! Good luck.

You need to take a LOT of vitamin C - like two 500mg pills an HOUR whenever you are awake for two days, then once or twice a day for another week. That's more than is usually recommended, but it's safe in the short run - any longer and there could be mild side effects like loose bowels, but basically you urinate out any you don't need.
Don't do it if you're already sick, just when you feel the first symptoms. Once you're really sick it won't help much if at all. Drink plenty of fluids (preferably hot, but not coffee or caffeinated tea), as the huge doses of Vitamin C act as a diuretic (water pill) to wash away the virus, and you need to stay hydrated. And get as much sleep as you can, as that helps your body resist the virus, too.

This is my fail proof method...:
I use alka selzter cold (1 dose) and one dose of tylenol allergy complete. Just take the two tylenols with a glass of alkaselzter cold every 6 hourse and in a day or two it will resolve... but you have to keep taking it every 6 hourse for at least 48 hours. it may knock you out now and again but you will wake up feeling better.

As soon as you feel that tingle put some ice on the place and if you are lucky you might stop the cold store from coming. or Do not touch or allow others to touch the cold stores (that means no kissing too)

What works for me:
-Take Vitamin C and zinc, before bed and first thing in the morning;
-Drink LOTS AND LOTS of water -- you'll pee a lot, but that's how you flush the virus out of your system;
-No milk products (they produce mucous);
-No smoking and no being around smoke;
-No booze (it's dehydrating);
-No caffeine (ditto);
-If you can find some clear soup that's a bit spicy, get some into you (Japanese or Vietnamese restaurants are your best bet); otherwise, good old chicken soup (even if it's store-bought).
-Get as much sleep as you can.

plenty of garlic in casseroles, soups or stews but don't fry it (if u cook it well enough it wont leave any smell on your breath) and a hot toddy to drink. And menthol crystals from the chemist to inhale and this should keep ur nasal cavity clear for a short time.
Hope u feel better soon

Echinacea is great for preventing colds! It tastes absolutely vile but its great stuff!
Another preventer would be a herbal remedy called Propolis. It's made from bees wax. Again, it tastes like I imagine poo to tast like!! Maybe it works cos after drinking that once you never want to have to drink it again!!

Try a parecetomol tablet. If you end up getting a cold - you'll probably be taking them anyway - so why not keep ahead of the game? My girlfriend swears by it.
