The addition of salt in water LOWERS (or "depresses") the freezing point and raises (or "elevates") the boiling point.

So salt water freezes at a LOWER temperature than fresh water and boils at a HIGHER tempeature.

It's called "freezing point depression and boiling point elevation."

Salt lowers the freezing point of water. Fresh water should freeze at about 0 degrees centigrade (depending on pressure and altitude), while saltwater will freeze between -15 to -25 degrees centigrade, depending on the salinity of the water in question.
