i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

It is so sad:( It is a complete tragedy that he has died. My heart goes out to his family right now. Steve Irwin was unique and the work he done with animals was outstanding. He had a way of explaining to us about these animals in such a simple way that even a child could understand. He was a great advocate for animals and i hope the work stated carries on as that is what he would have wanted. What a very special and gifted man he was.

To provide the answer, his heart was pierced by a sting ray. I too admire him, and his passion, and uncompromising focus on what he felt to be important in his life. Personally, I feel it is unfair to him when he is simply labled an "entertainer". Irwin was so much more than an entertainer and had a much larger purpose and impact on the world than he seems to be getting credit for. If there's a legacy to be left behind, or a piece of himself he would leave us I am certain it would be his passion and love for nature and the animals we share this world with. In Steve's case I can truthfully say that the world was far more interesting and better off with him in it. Unfortunately it seems those with the most fervor and passion for life are those who leave us before it seems they should. However, in the same respect Steve lived life with a great intensity, and I am sure, got more out of his 44 years on the planet than most of us will, should we live to 100.

To Steve, who lived life to the fullest, you will be missed greatly.

Hello . I am from Scotland (U.K) and i would like to say Steve`s tragic untimely death has affected us all here on the other side of the world .He was a fantastic guy to watch on T.V but he had me biting my nails a few times , he had guts ! Its extremely sad this has happened , couldn`t quite believe the news on Monday morning (GMT) , i kept thinking this HAS to be a mistake and waited all day for some sort of apology for this awful error , but as time went on it was on all U.K. channels , tv and radio .. There`s no mistake its sadly true :( Poor guy .
The only consolation there is albeit small is as many people have said before Steve has left us doing what he loved doing . Many people thought he was lucky to have gotten away with so many dangerous situations ie the crocs , but i myself think if a croc had killed him Steve would be deeply upset as he believed himself to have a super rapport with these wonderful species and not forgetting the immense respect he had for all wildlife .
No one knows the answer as to why Steve ? We can all make our own personal assumptions and I myself don`t have one but what i do know , when this happened to Steve his late mother Lyn would have met him with open arms in Heaven ...

God bless the Irwin family & friends who have to try and make sense of this tradegy ...
Condolences from the United Kingdom

Rest In Peace , Steve .

Crikey Mate , what a loss ...

Shame really, the guy was a bit nuts, but he was nothing but entertaining and committed to his cause. You would have expected him to go out in a blaze of glory with a crocodile or something! RIP Mr Irwin!

A sorry day for wildlife programs and such a great entertainer,
He took a lot of chances but really enjoyed his job.
Our sympathy must go to his poor wife who must carry on without his help to bring up their children.

sorry you feel this way my friend. you see i think he took to many chances and to be honest I'm surprised he got killed in this manner. i thought he would have been killed by a crocodile. hope you can deal with it my friend this is all part of life. he also leaves 2 children and a wife. R.I.P. Mr Irwin. but in the bright side of life you can still emulate your hero but dont take as many chances and take care my friend.

It just goes to show that it doesn't matter how much you know what you're doing, some freak accident can still take you out if you spend too much of your life playing with dangerous animals.
