Well you technically can't open a new account with Outlook, your best bet is to open a account with a place like GMail (I've haven't confirmed this) and ask them (by checking your settings or help link) to how to download your messages to Outlook. Also I belive you can with Hotmail, but you'll have to sign up for account their as well, you won't lose anything by signing up for a account, but be advised some places, Yahoo specficlly, will chage you (make you sign up for their premieum services) for downloading your messages to Outlook, how this helps.

First of all you need to determine if you ISP uses POP3 or IMAP. Most ISP do use POP3 so assuming that's the case what you need will be the following: (bear in mind that this is the generic format and your particular ISP may be a little different)

1) pop.*****.com (sometimes, mail.*****.com [***** being your ISP] This is used for INCOMING messages.

2) smtp.*****.com. This is for SENDING mail or OUTGOING messages.

Once you have that setup then all you need is your username and password. Port settings for the most part can be left alone but sometimes ISPs require specific ports, if you input everything but aren't able to email (send and/or recieve) contact your ISP to get the specific port settings or you should be able to visit their website as well.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Update: Just read the above posts and just so you are aware, both Hotmail and Yahoo! charge for POP service. Anyone who's had a Hotmail account for a certain number of years (I wanna say year 2000) can access their account through Outlook Express but anyone who created an account after that time, you cannot unless you buy the annual service. Same with Yahoo!. Gmail is the only one with free POP access and the other one would be your ISP. I have all 4 accounts so I do know what I am talking about. :)

Hi,

Outlook Express is a software provided by microsoft to bring all our email from the internet to our computer/laptop so that when we dont have internet or while we are travelling we can read them from our computer.

As its a software/program it needs some settings to copy all the mails from the internet to the computer. Thats when we put in all those POP & SMTP server names etc.,

Let me give you an example:
I have a account on gmail and gmail provides that facility to download all our mail to the desktop and read them..... so what i mean to say is we can configure a gmail account with outlook express so that we can read our gmail mails on the computer.

On how to configure Outlook Express for Gmail Please follow this link:

To open a email account with Gmail you can contact me.

Did i answer your question?

Have a Great Day !!! :)
