So many people seem to be infatuated (sp) with the term "redneck", let's see how many know exactly what one is. Chews tobacco? Nope; many, many baseball and football players do (or at least use to). Drives a pick-up? Better take a look at all of you who drive an SUV (nothing but a pick-up with the bed covered) Drinks beer? Next comment.
Lives in the south? Try again. So come on, all you intellect types; give us a good definition.

not sure what you mean. my friends and I and anyone I've ever met at any track has not been a redneck. nascar is quite expensive for any spectator to do it proper justice and i don't believe a redneck could afford it. i was raised to believe that a redneck was someone with no ambition, someone that worked a low paying job w/o putting forth effort to find a better paying job or seeking education or training in order to achieve a better quality of life. not sure what the real meaning is as it is a term used to degrade and insult people. if you found any of this type person at the race tracks in the nascar circuit they would be the minority.

it doesn't offend me, but it does not need to a "southern thing" there are alot of drivers that are not in the south. I love nascar and am from the south (southwest va 30 min from bristol to be exact) and alot of the people you see at the tracks are clean cut and nice. i have yet to meet someone who was not polite, even if we did not like the same driver. so i don't think NASCAR is a redneck sport anymore. you will see people of different races, colors and nationalities there. But i am 100% redneck and have one thing left to say WE LOVE YOU #20!!!!!!

a typical redneck is actually a farmer or rancher that works outside all day, and therefore got burned by the sun and the back of their necks are red. it was meant as more of a descriptive term to begin with, but due to Jeff Foxworthy and other comedians the term redneck is more derogatory now, meaning someone with very little intelligence that lives in a rundown home that has little to no income. hope that helps.

Properly a "redneck" is a southern feild worker who's neck was subject to the sun during the day. When the workers took off their shirts their necks were red, this redneck.
So when you sit in the stands at the race and the back of your neck gets red well join the club your a redneck too.( This can apply for F1,baseball,football ect)

They're supposed to be from the south.
But I am temporarily living in the south right now, and I'm not a redneck.

You can thank Jeff Foxworthy for promoting this stupidity.

Don't rednecks almost always vote Republican or is that a false stereotype?
Hands up all you "proud rednecks" who support the Green Party. :-)
Oh, and I'm not an "intellect) or intellectual, hence the lack of euphuisms in my answer.

i live down south. people self proclaim themselves as rednecks. i think people interchange white trash and redneck as meaning the same thing, which isnt true. Rednecks are just country people, yeah they usually put big tires (tar's) on their pickups and work service type jobs.

Mildly offensive term for a lower class white person from the southeastern states of the USA. Derives from someone who spent a lot of time on manual labour outside and so received a "red neck" from the sun.

Who says "y'all" anymore, apart from damn rednecks?
