Looking for info on why some people can not urinate when someone else is closeby or watching. Not talking about SBS (shy bladder syndrome). That's the one where you can only go to the bathroom at home. I'm talking about drug test urinating, public restrooms, etc... Some joke about it and call it "performance anxiety". Anyone know how to fix this?

This is very common, my husband is one of those who cannot if anyone is near by, instead of trying to fix it first you must learn to deal with it. I suggest you use a stall when in public places and then think of this as no big deal. I think boys who have sisters are more apt to have this problem because of the taboo in the bathroom when young. After you begin to realize that you have been using a stall and it has not been a big deal and you have let go of the anxiety down the road use a urinal when no one else is in the bathroom and if someone comes in look at the ceiling or wall and imagine yourself anywhere but there, say a beach on a warm day with the warm sand on your bare feet and how relaxing that thought is and before you know it you will have accomplished your goal. I have a son that has this problem also and they are both worriers and stressed out people that let everything get to them and this is just another anxiety to deal with. It is all mind over matter, I work for a company that drug tested, and I needed to take a pee test for the job, the woman from the lab that ran the urine test had to watch me pee with the stall door open, so as to not have urine that was not mine for the test, so I had to pee with her totally watching me, not like she was in the next stall and could only haer me pee. But Karen & I pee in front of each other all the time so I did not mind it. It is however an issue for some ladies, but just imagine as you sit on the toilet that you are home and have to go really bad, and I am sure you will pee with no problem.

Try this. At home, stare straight forward when you gotta pee. Sing a favorite song in your head. Once you are used to doing this by rote, try it the next time you find yourself at a public urinal. Good luck! ...(An aside to the girl who thinks you were just whippin it out any ol' time...urinals are usually lined up on a wall, with nary a divider. We males are not afforded the dainty privacies you ladies get.)

maybe its a guy thing cause they pee out in the open in urinals---use a stall or wait till you get home

drink a giant cup of water before you have to go. thats what i always did when i had to take a drug test "job related"
