It seems that straight men don't appreciate, or cannot admit they appreciate, a female pop singer like Shakira, Madonna, Britney, Beyonce or any one of those. Only alternative types like PJ Harvey, Bjork, Goldfrapp or the one from Yeah Yeah Yeahs or such. Why is that? Discuss!

ALL of today's music SUCKS. Straight,gay,boy or girl it doesn't matter. How can you compare it to the music of the 70's? Not in the same league.

I'm a straight guy, and I adore plenty of female vacalists. It's not my fault Britney, Madonna, and Beyonce are harlots who suck at singing. If you want a good female singer, try Joni Mitchell.

Your talking about respecting a woman for singing alternative to not respecting someone in pop music. I guess it would be because lots of em "sell out" but hell, they did what they had to do to get where they are to day. I dont really like the ones you named cept for Shakira, but i respect them all in a sense.

i don't get it. men usually do appreciate pop singers. um. lots of guys used to like Britney.... but they're more for the body than the voice if that's what you mean.
