Anything by Evanescence. And I mean ANYTHING

'Wake Me Up When September Ends' by Green Day is powerful, as is 'Scars' by Papa Roach and 'Breaking the Habit' or 'Faint' by Linkin Park. And let's not forget 'Unwell.' That's as poignant as it gets

Oh, and Nickelback has made a powerful trio: 'How You Remind Me,' 'Someday,' and 'Saving Me.' Say whatever you want about originality, they're pretty powerful. So is 'Too Bad,' but it loses points for the chorus.

For the pop fan, 'Beautiful Disaster' by Kelly Clarkson (or 'Because of You,' which reminds me of the also-powerful 'Confessions of a Broken Heart' by Lindsay Lohan) or 'All You Wanted' by Michelle Branch. For the really poppy-pop, 'Everytime' by Britney Spears or 'The Voice Within' by Christina Aguilera

"Unpretty" or "Waterfalls" by TLC are powerful, if not terribly trancendent. "Stole" by Kelly Rowland if powerful, but only if you know what you're listening to. Also, you can find some powerful lyrics in "soul" music a la Mary J. Blige, Keisha Cole, and India Arie.

For rap fans, Eminem's "When I'm Gone" and "Mockingbird" aren't bad.

Just trying to be diverse

There is a song that I just heard by Kenny Rogers called The Last Ten Years. It is about everything that happened in the last ten years and about things that could happen in the future. It has really powerful lyrics.
