It really all depends for what you're looking to buy. I can help with a little, though. For clothes, listen around for the holidays, like "Memorial Day", "Presidents Day", and other smaller ones. Shopping malls and places like the stores Macy's and Mervyns tend to have large sales then. For sales on holiday decorations or items like Halloween, Easter, and Christmas, the best shopping times are right after the holidays themselves because the stores are trying to get rid of all those kinds of holiday items. For food, fresh foods anyway, try to find out which items are in season then, because those will always be the cheapest to buy.
