No. They treat you bad to get some kind of control over you. If you treat them bad in return, they have controlled you.
Your best response is to treat them as you would any other acquaintance (not like a friend). Be polite, but don't let them treat you poorly again. Say 'Hi' if they do, but don't go out of your way for them. Don't knock yourself out trying to avoid them, or they 'll have controlled you again. Live your life like you want to and ignore them. When they don't get a response from you they'll go looking for someone else to bother.

PS.......If they are threatening or violent, ignore what I just said and get help from an authority figure like a parent, teacher, or law enforcement. The world is a crazy place, and I don't want to hear about you getting hurt.

If someone mistreats me, my first instinct is to distance myself from them. I rather not even get caught up in conflicts and payback.

Sometimes though, you can distance yourself from jerks. In those cases, I refuse to be a doormat. If someone mistreats me and I can't get away from them, I will probably respond in kind because sometimes the best defense is a good offense that can be used as a deterrent. Jerks shouldn't have impunity. Turning the another cheek never worked for me.

Of course not. Most people choose to treat them the same way, but it takes a brave person to still treat them how they should be treated. Just remember the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It may be corny, but it's still cool.

No, I actually try to either stay away from them (you usually can't change the mind of a jerk) or if I have to be around them, I am SO nice! Kill them with kindness. What can they say about that? The best way to live is by being happy with who you are. Stay away from those who put you down and don't get down to their level.

Only if you enjoy being treated bad. Which is not quit normal. If you don't want to be treated bad, then walk away.

You should treat people the way you would want to be treated, even if the don't treat you the same way. God says you should love your neighbor...

no but it is very hard not to as we tend to retaliate,as our feeling will be hurt ,and it puts you on the defensive, its very hard no to go back ,but depending on the situation ,it may be better not to,but also if someone is treating you badly are they trying to contol you if you believe this then get the hell out ,or you will be leading a very sad and emotional life,

If it is bad enough to destroy your entire life then absolutely treat them the same way. An eye for an eye.

I totally agree with that . That may be why I don't have any friends either but, I still believe that and will still act the same way until I die. " Do unto other as others have done unto you ".
