Just got a brand new Frigidaire front loading washer (I had a top loading one before), and still have a huge container of regular detergent. Can I use it up before I buy the HE detergent? Will this ruin the machine? What's the reason for the HE detergent anyway?

Because of the tumble action, regular detergent suds up too much. The oversudsing can cause damage to your washer - particularly the rubber things that help hold the wash drum in place. This is the most common reason why front-loaders fail. (According to neighbor who repairs washers for a major retailer.)

I was mixed on this when I first got my high-efficency washer, but after a few rounds in the tumbler, I found that using less regular detergent just wasn't getting the clothes as clean, even though the washer was far superior. When I tried out HE detergent, everything became spiffy clean. I gave up, bought the HE stuff, and gave away my huge thing of regular detergent using FreeCycle, so at least it didn't go to waste.

So, in my opinion, yes, use the silly HE detergent.

I have had a the front loader for 7 years and it does a fantastic activity cleansing, i will not in any respect pass again. I were washing fabric diapers in it for 2 years. you extremely do not choose very a lot cleansing soap, the gadget does the artwork. I actually use some Tablespoons. you need to purchase the certain cleansing soap, or basically use a lot less of the conventional stuff.

You'll get too much sudsing. Chances are your washer will actually detect this and do extra rinse cycles...but it will take forever and waste water.

Costco laundy detergent can be used in HE machines. Its realtively cheap and works well.

You can use any soap, just don't use too much of it.
