yeah, he did. he was filming a documentary about the great barrier reef off the coast of australia. he got too close to a stingray and it drove its stinger into his chest.

its really sad---i really liked Steve and his programs.

i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet

yes im affraid he really did but only in body his brliefs and impact on me and millions will never die and no greater a man have i seen in my lifetime with animals and teaching others about conserveing wildlife have i seen yet. my last marrige we had many problems but when stevo came on we had no dissagreements . we both set and loved him together and still do even though we arent married anymore. my kids love him and this is terrible loss to them but wait theres two little stevos waiting in the wing. im sure they will carry the fight on to higher levels and mom wont let stevos name die out as long as shes around . so look forwards to the second chapter of croc hunters diarys in future and know this . God has special place for the croc hunter in heaven.

Yes, I am sorry to say that he did.

Just this morning, Monday 4th September, he was struck by the barb on the tail of a stingray, and died shortly after.

Very sad; there will be many people missing him and wanting to send their condolences to his wife and family.
