No, but Rowling will render him ultimately insignificant. She's often alluded to the possibility that Neville Long-Bottom could also possibly be the predestined "chosen one" so to speak. Also, the last story may contain a strong redemption story arc for Draco Malfoy, in which he'll parallel R. Black's (Serious Black's brother) betrayal of Voldermort. Rowling had a reason for not allowing Malfoy to kill in 1/2 Blood, and had Snape take steps to protect Malfoy. I think that Harry may have served as a red herring and vehicle to expand and explain Rowling's universe but that the last novel may reveal the truth about Neville and focus on the redemption of Snape and the goodness of Draco Malfoy.

Such an original question.

Considering I've seen it asked about three million times here already, and that NO ONE knows the answer, the question's getting old a little.

But that's not your fault. What is even worse is all those who claim to have the answer. Most people can do is guess, and honestly, you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right. One way or another, when the book is published, half the people here will be able to claim "I told you so! I told you I knew! I was right all along!" sigh...

Thanks for the 2 points and for letting me vent.

All rumors and even J.K. Rowling are hinting that he will, along with two other main characters and possibilities for others. Personally, I think he's going to have to sacrifice himself in order to kill Voldemort in the end. Probably, the most probable two main characters to die besides Harry and Voldemort are Ron and Hermione. After all, they will be the ones who go with Harry when he leaves Hogwarts and will be with him afterwards. Though, J.K. Rowling has hinted at times that Hagrid may die as well. In terms of authors resurrecting the character, I'm assuming J.K. Rowling has something planned for this. In interviews before, she has said that she doesn't want the character to be taken up by other authors after the 7th book. If this happens, Harry's adult life could be carried on for decades and the series would lose its magic. In killing Harry, Ron, and Hermione, this is thus not only a literary motive. Overall, we will see in time. There have been articles saying that the 7th book will come out in 2007. Let's hope it does! Hope I helped.

J K Rowlings is still writing the book and she has hinted that two main characters will die. Both Dan Brown and Steven King have urged her not to kill off Harry Potter lest she be faced with the task of resurrecting the character, as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle did with Sherlock Holmes.
With legions of fans still in childhood I hope her common sense prevails.

No I don't think Jo will do that. The basic premise of the story is good vs. evil, if she kills off Harry it might seem as though evil wins. Plus at the readings she did in New York recently she kind of slipped and hinted that Harry would survive.

All the rumors say so. Even if he dies, he is a wizard. There is always a way for him to come back. Don't forget Sherlock Holmes was killed off after falling off a waterfall. A way was found to bring him back.

If Jo kills Harry off, she ruins her whole reputation. No one will read the books because everyone knows that Harry dies in the end. No matter how hard we try, spoilers will get out.
